Dear colleague, as you may know, a group of about 500 researchers of varying dignity (everything from bachelor's students to professors and industrial researchers) have written a letter to the EU commission (1,2) urging the commission to consider "climate smart forestry". The letter is, in fact, poorly conceived industry propaganda, with multiple errors and misconceptions. They urge the EU not to protect more forest (since it "has no further benefits for biodiversity"), they mix up carbon flows with carbon debt and so on. A few of us have written a rebuttal letter that we intend to submit to the EU. Would you please consider signing it? Our letter is in a google document below, that is open for commenting.
